Getting different CPU temperature readings?

I am getting conflicting readings for the CPU temperature from several monitoring programs.
I'm not sure which is correct or what temperature range is appropriate for the
    AMD Sempron 3400+.

    -------------------------------------------------------------
    Everest ver. 2.20.405
    Computer - Sensor
    40C - CPU

    Speccy ver. 1.08.218
    37C - CPU

    SpeedFan ver. 4.42
    46C - CPU
    33C - Core #1

    Hardware Monitor ver. 1.17.0
    AMD Sempron 3400+ : Core #0
    33C - Min: 31C - Max: 35C

    Core Temp ver. 0.99.8
    34C - Low: 34C - High: 39C
    TCase Max: 69C ???
    -------------------------------------------------------------

The GPU readings are more consistant at ~50C which is lower than previous temps.
I Removed the expansion slot back plate adjacent to the Passively cooled
ASUS Nvidia 8400GS card and the temp dropped from ~60C to ~50C.

What is the TCase Max reading in Core Temp?? :confused
    Thanks. :)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, mjnc.

Frankly, you're showing symptoms that I've seen many times: different temp monitor programs seem to always display differing results. Honestly, I tend to trust only the readings displayed in BIOS.

As far as the TCase Max, I found this in the ALCPU Forum:

Which makes no sense: you're using a Sempron 3400+, which is a Socket 754, correct? Then why are you showing a reading?

    I don't know...:confused

Everyone gets different temps using different programmes, nothing to worry about.

I use HWMonitor and Real Temp and take a reading around what those two produce.

All your temps look fine so i don'r think there is anything to worry about unless you have a problem somewhere?

Agreed with above, although since Auggie told me about Speccy I've tested some out against BIOS readings and found Speccy is the most acurate to both BIOS and ATI CCC.
And yeah I say your temps look fine.

Thanks for all of the responses! :cool
You set my mind at ease.

    @ Caliban
Thanks for the tip about the BIOS reading.
Last time I looked, I think the CPU was in the low 30's.

Thanks for the link and quote about TCase Max.
And, Yes, the Sempron 3400+ is socket 754.

    @Burrell
I just installed HWMonitor and I like it. I'm gonna keep that one.

    @Nedlamar
Thanks. I like Speccy - nice interface (from the CCleaner folks) and good info.
That reading was a little higher, so I'll compare it to the BIOS reading.

As regards the socket 754, I've been wondering if I could install a faster Athlon 64
without causing any problems with compatibility, power draw, heat, etc.
For example, I've seen some at ebay:

I thought you said you had a 3400+? In which case upgrading to one of those would be pointless, you would be much better of saving for a CPU, MB and RAM upgrade to the AM3 socket which would cost around £160 (around $180?)

Thanks for the suggestion, Burrell. :wave
That's beyond what I had in mind.

The AMD processor numbering can be confusing and not necessarily indicative of processor speed or performance.
The Sempron line is a kind of entry-level processor that competed with, and out performed, the Intel Celeron.
    The Sempron 3400+ is 2GHz with a 256K L2 cache.
    The Athlon 64 3200+ is 2.2GHz with a 512K L2 cache.

This would be a very inexpensive upgrade and easy enough that I should be able to handle it myself.
I would not attempt to change the motherboard.

Ah, when i looked i found them both to have a 2.2Ghz clock speed.

For that price you can't really go wrong, grab it :-D
