    Help,
I somehow got stuck with a trojan horse that sits in my windows/system
folder but when i got there i can't find it. I keep getting these popups saying that I have it but Norton won't let me fix it. When you try to search for HiJackThis or anything that will help remove it on google it closes the window.
Can anyone please help me kill this dumb thing.
    Thanks
    Nate

Hi Nate and Welcome to Majorgeeks

Does Norton tell you wich trojan it is, if so please tell us its name?

But also follow the below and attach all the logs requested, if you get stuck on any section do let us know what happened or why you couldnt get one of the logs. In the guide below are links to the downloads you need, so you wont have to search, if you cannot download them on your PC, do see if a freind will help you in downloading the software for you, burn to CD or copy to USB Pen.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    Hello.

Yes, Norton is saying that the trojan is in my c:\windows\system folder and it's called ggf.exe.tmp
I've looked in that folder and it's not there. I'm thinking the temp file has something to do with it. I have to read all the help from my work computer because any page relaiting to virus removal or hijackthis gets automatically closed. It also closes any virus removal program instantly upon opening.
I've read that i should run Hijackthis, CCremoval and some other programs to help me out but they're all getting closed.
    Any help?

Just complete all the steps that Halo gave to you as best as you can. If something does not work, just tell us what happens when you return but make sure that you try to run everything we request and run it in the order specified. When you get to the HijackThis step, make sure you install it where we request and also it is critical that you rename it as requested. If it still does not work, just attach all the other logs you were able to get.

OK, after days of messing around I finally got it to work. After renaming it a split second before it closed the window i finally got HijackThis to run.
I attached the log. Could you please tell me what you guys see here cause this looks like a bunch of crazy stuff to me. I also uploaded a screen shot of what norton tells me with the popup.
    Thanks
    Nate

What about the rest of the steps that Halo gave to you? HijackThis is the last thing we asked for and is not adequate to clean your PC of all malware.
