I have an old computer that I am giving away. It is running on W98SE and before I throw it away, I want to make sure that the hard drive is clean and does not contain any files.

Someone suggested I format. TO format a drive simply go to windows explorer. Right click the hard drive name on the area that appears on the left side. For example: (C . On the little menu that appears click format and Windows should handle the rest.

Does anybody know if this is OK or have another suggestion?

When I tried to format I got a message. Windows cannot format this drive because it contains files in use by Windows.

You have to format in pure dos.

    insert your 3 1/2 disquette star-up disk(win98SE).

    then type format c:

    hope this help....
