I downloaded this program to notify of incoming emails ( used to use yahoo messenger, but they discontinued this service with no warning:()

It worked for a while, but now - nothing.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and made sure firewall is allowing it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Hi Paul

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?
How long as GMail notifier been working ok on your PC for and have you installed or updated any applications before this happened?

What firewall are you using, Windows inbuilt one or a 3rd party, if 3rd party what one?

Do you get any error messages from Gmail Notifier as to not notifying you or not allowing you to add your Gmail account to it?

Try the portable version HERE and see if it works?
If you have not given all this a read HERE do so.

    Hi David,

When I first downloaded it a few days ago, it automatically picked XP Service pack 2 (In compatibility settings).

It worked for a few days and then stopped yesterday.

I re-downloaded it yesterday and it picked XP Service pack 3.

I use Windows built-in firewall and made sure it was allowed, so that wasn't the problem.

I just got home and booted and the alerts were there, so maybe it fixed itself?:-D

There might be a ghost taking control.;)

I'll let you know if it reverts back to its usual behavior.

    Thanks,

    Paul

No, my OS is Win 7 Pro and it picked XP service pack three to run in compatibility mode, as I said previously.

I read all the troubleshooting steps prior to posting as I try to solve all my problems on my own.

I also downloaded the portable version and it made no difference.

I also said it is now working.

It never identified my OS as XP.

    You've heard of compatibility settings?

    Let's move on.

Since Gmail Notifier Pro is Win 7 compatible

you should NOT try to install it in compatibility mode. The only time you use compatibility mode is when a program is not listed as working in the version of Windows you are using.

I didn't try to install in compatibility mode.

When it wouldn't give alerts, I checked properties and that's what it showed.

When I re-downloaded it, it now shows run in Xp service pack 3 and is working.

I reinstalled the program and added IPOP and it now works perfectly.

Still shows as running in XP Service Pack 111 mode, so NOTHING is wrong with my OS, or the Installer.

I'll be signing off from this thread.

I do accept good advice and got it from another forum.

Or can't you understand that the problem has been solved through no help of yours?
