Is this a good book for someone wanting to learn C?

C Programming: A Modern Approach by King or can anyone recommend another one (~$100).

I know java and most important CS concepts so I mainly want to learn the syntax and structure (particularly in Linux).

P.S. Is C used for anything important nowadays aside from operating systems? I was wondering how hard or easy it'd be to learn C++ after leaning C (I heard that a number of differences in syntax and afraid I'd be too used to C's way) since most things are OOP nowadays so C++ seems more beneficial.

    Thanks.

You can find ANYthing on the internet. I wouldn't spend more that 20 bucks on a book.. 40 if it's a good publisher. 100 bucks? it better write code for me.

C++ if you want to write cross platform
if you want ONLY windows? then .NET is your baby.
