I've heard Star Wars: Empire At War is a C&C type game, and very good at that.

A good on line game IMHO is TRADE WARS, yes the old BBS game. It is addicting and fun, runs thru telnet

I'd recommend Myth 2: Soulblighter, it doesn't allow you to build your own units though. Each level you get a certain amount of units and must make do with that. Requires a bunch of strategy and tactics.

Definately better than build up mass produce rushing games.

Game came out in 1998, but still a large community for it.

Demo can be found at: http://projectmagma/what

StarCraft, Star Wars Galactic BattleGrounds, Age of Empires..all of these are good games.

Edit: Very similar to C&C. StarCraft is a personal favorite. Age of Empires has a little historical perspective to it (very little). Star Wars is Star Wars.
