Google Spider

I came across this term and I would like to get a definition. I've run searches
and can't find a definition. The info I've found just isn't enough to tell me
what the heck is a "Google Spider".

 

it's an application that google uses to "crawl" through your website so it can index your site.

 

It works by looking up its current index, uses a starting point and follows every link it finds on a page, indexes that, then follows every link on THAT page, and so on.

If you draw a picture of it you get a diagram that looks like a spider. Thus the "Spider"
