    hiiiii...

Well wud b greatful if u cud help me out...

Problem : My laptop is not able to play the video files properly. The playback is jerky.....graphics do get distorted..stop in between...n all...as if system resources are not enough..

    Configuration :
    Laptop(Lenovo)
    Celeron M processor
    1.4 GHz
    256 MB RAM
    Sis Mirage Graphics

    Using Windows XP SP2

What are the various possible ways to deal with the issue?

More RAM. 256Mb isn't a lot especially if you're doing a lot of video stuff.

    Is 512 sufficient?

    Any other advice...?

I would say that with XP 512Mb is the minimum you would need. The more the better. :)

The video play back is damn jerky...
    Upgrading RAM would suffice?

It's by far the easiest and cheapest option and yes - it'll will improve things immensely. :)

More ram in a laptop that only has 256mb ram ( possibly less as most likely the SIS Graphics is using at least 32mb or more of that shared from main system ram ) like Yargwel said is a must.

but you could try to close down as many no essential background or running tasks to conserve as much memory as possible.

Yes 32 Mb of RAM is being used by Sis Mirage Graphics...

    I have stopped many processes..(Like automatic update..etc)..
    Stopped using Norton..
Done lot of tweaks for improving performance...

Guess i will have to upgrade RAM because laptop is still toooo slow..

    :(
