running win xp pro, hard drive is a 40Gb Maxtor. When the hard drive is plugged in, computer runs at about 5% (sempron 2800+ w/ 1.25 Gb ram) of capacity. Hard drive shows 0 Bytes used and 0 Bytes free. Anyone heard of it happen before? I heard FDisk might help. Any other suggestions?

Go to the Maxtor Support Web Site, in the software download section under ATA Drives, select utilities and then PowerMax.

It saved a 60gig drive for me. Give it a try.
