 I have a small hard drive 5.9 GBto be exact, I only have approx.800 mb left I have taken everything I can think of with still no luck other than having to much junk on it is there something that could be wrong? I.E. double files, backup files?I have checked for both and didn't find anything. now I do have over 30 windows updates? is there a program that will take off unessacary windows files? I do have clean&tidy and I ran it and cleaned - caches, history, registry, cookies ect. any one have any advice?undefined

    thanks deokat

you could always buy a really cheap small HDD if u really want, but that is so tiny, id suggest a new comp ;) but ya, you can get a used HDD pretty damn cheap, otherwise remove stuff u dont use, defrag

My standard advice is to download, install and run

    Cleanup! http://www.stevengould.org/ Freeware 3.1
EmpTemp http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1575 Not for XP yet?
    and CrapCleaner v1.12.063 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

All 3, all free, don't conflict with each other. Each one finds stuff that the other two miss.
Reboot immediately after running CrapCleaner or Cleanup! to get rid of your index.dat files. Index.dat accumulates crap like you wouldn't believe, even after 1 long session on the net.

I run all 3 daily, one after the other, immediately after logging off the net. I am using W98SE on dialup. Bazza

As MA said above 5.6gb is small these days.... XP alone will take up around 2gb's then your apps ... doesnt leave much left and once you start getting to around 200mb-ish windows can start to give off random errors!

the apps posted above by Bazza, MA do a great job of removing temporary files and junk.... also if you have alot of downloads eg. Drivers, Apps, Pictures etc etc think about putting some of them on CDR as then you can utilize the space they took up?

but a second or larger drive is most likely needed these days are software is getting bigger and bigger .... and OS's are bloating like they been on the Maccy Ds diet! ;)

Besides downloading CCleaner and other programs like that I would defrag your hardrive. That gets a lot of stuff that you don't need anymore out.

Defrag mentioned by JJJIrish also. I thought defrag only rearranged the crap, not got rid of anything. That has been my consensus for nearly 20 years of using IBM PC's. Bazza

yeah i thought defrag only moved grouped and reorganized it.

Doesn't have to be external. Maybe there is (should be) room in the box for a second internal drive. A lot easier and neater unless you want off site storage and/or backup. Bazza

yeah my mistake, it compresses the files. I was thinking of CCleaner which is also a good program that was mentioned.
