    Hey everyone,

I got back from vacation, started up my dell dimension 4700 desktop and there were a series of blue screens and % status bars running before windows started. This struck me as odd and since then, my graphics driver became corrupt, I reinstalled it and I can finally see the screen properly. I ran spybot search and destroy and noticed my windows updates had been disabled. I was unsuccessful to run mcafee again so i started to delete the files so i could reinstall. Finally I was able to install Micro Trend and have been using it ever since. No viruses found to date and I updated 15 critical objects in win update.

I followed the majorgeeks.com sticky and removed a few entires from my hijackthis log, but the comp is slower than ever. I'm trying to identify whether this is an issue caused by a virus/malware/etc. that can be corrected or simply a defect in hardware. I ran "msconfig" and under the tools-event viewer- I have a reoccuring message: "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block." The recommended options are to replace the disk. I've attached my hijackthis log, if someone could please take a look and advise I would be grateful before I go out and buy a new HD.

    Thanks, majorgeeks.com 0wns!

    Paul

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com, please follow our standard cleaning procedures:

[IMG] Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
[IMG] Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

[IMG]After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

[IMG] Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
    • Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
[IMG]When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
    • CounterSpy
    • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
    • Bitdefender - from step 6
    • Panda Scan - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
