hard drive's from hell

    I have a soyo mother board with a amd athalon 1.5 gigahertz proc.and a thunderbird mob.
    I have 3 wd hard drives. 2 internal and 1 external for backupfor a total of 220 gig's of hard drive. I just did a complete reformat and a reinstall of windows 98. I have a creative lab 5.1 sound system from a creative lab live platium sound card. I have with a nvidia 64 meg sound card. I have a yamaha cd writer, also a creative lab dvd 12x player.
    when i reinstalled my system i get the message that all my hard drives or running in ms-dos compatility mode file system.
    I went on google but i didnt find any answers.
    I thought mabey some one can help. You can e=mail me or post a message.

    IIRC (and it's been awhile) MS-DOS compatibility mode was where the FAT table kept both long filenames and DOS 8.3 file names in the FAT. So you could use versions of DOS that don't support long file names.

    At least, that's what I seem to remember.
