    Hi Guys,

Here's a printout of my SiSoft Sandra Pro 2004 results, to me, my new system seems to be underperforming, and I dont just mean on the video side of things, just raw performance, it seems to yeah, be more of a 1.8GHz machine instead of a 2.8GHz machine..

Any ideas on what I can do (Software/hardware changing settings, etc) side of things do? (except overclock)

    Any help would be bonza!

    Cheers,

    David Giles

Most performance issues end up being on the end of the software spectrum, not hardware.

Do you use spyware removal tools?
    Do you defrag?
    Have you disabled uneccessary services?
(Have you determined why you only have 511mb of ram? ;))

Re: the tips from Sandra, I wouldn't trust them.

I don't trust Sandra for most things.

THE David Giles of what is now pretty much defunct Hardware-Pacers?

I do not defrag, takes too long in my book, as for memory, isnt 512MB enough?....

And yes, I originally created, run and then gave Hardware Pacers away....

As for un-needed services. where do I start?

    Cheers,

    David

You should let your machine defrag at least once in a while... otherwise your drives will be thrashing away to put together the data stored on them, which greatly slows general performance in windows.

I expect that youre missing 1MB of ram down to bios shadowing or somthing like that. Perhaps you should turn that off too. But we'll get to that bit later.

Make sure you've got the latest drivers for everything. Especially your chipset. Also, be sure to disable any real-time anti-virus when you're doing benchmarking.

The only chipset drivers there are, is the AGP XP Driver and IDE driver, thats it

    Hi Guys,

Ok I went to that website and did most of the tweaking, disabling that is fit for my system... its sped up a bit...

Is there other stuff I can do? also, what are the best BIOS settings? sometimes when I play a game it says I havent got a AGP card installed, meanwhile I have a 128MB Radeon 9200 installed.

Or, when I play counter-strike condition zero, with OpenGL, I get like 1FPS @ 640x480!!! yet when it switches to software mode I get like 60+FPS! I have the latest catalyst drivers installed, I dont know whats the GO!

The issue with the video sounds like the agp driver. Make sure you re-install the latest for your motherboard. Looks like you have an ecs brand motherboard, but I cannot seem to find a model number from that sandra printout!
