Last night my girlfriend thinks she may have picked up some malware / virues .

She said it was trying to direct her to http://anykuy.com

So she turned off her pc to wait for me to get round.

Now when i turn on th epc it boots into windows to the enterpass word screen, when you put in the password it starts to log into her profile ( there is only hers and the hidden admin acct ) but as soon as it starts to login to the profile , it then immidatly logs back out to the password screen.

Now this happens exactly the same if i try and boot in , in safe mode and into either her or the admin account. it just logs you straight back out.?

Now im not really sure how im meant to do anything if i cant get into windows.

    Any ideas ?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Sounds like you either lost or corrupter the userinit.exe file or the registry keys associated with loading it. The below is the next step as you need to restore from old registry keys in System Restore to recover (that is assuming you have Win XP ).

    Thanks for you reply .

Yes it is XP , but its a copy that came with the comp when she bought it from tiny :s , so its not just the normal copy of windows.

In the link you posted it starts lol ....

" Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system "

Does that mean the kind of copy she has ?

If so is there any other way of doing it ? i believe she has an old backup of her registry in her documents from when she installed spybot search and destroy. Would there be a way of restoring the registry from the backup, without being able to login to windows as i previously described.

And thanks again for any help you are able to give :)

    You're welcome.

I'm not to sure about this. I have used this procedure many times on PCs from DELL, GateWay and HP without a problem. You may want to check in the Software Forum to be safe but I have not had an issue. My personal favorite and much much easier way to do this is with this CD UBCD4Win which you would need to make yourself. Using it and tools already built-in you can simplify the steps of the Microsoft article and just backup the original registry hives and then copy the hives from a restore point right in all at one time without have to do multiple boots or things from a command prompt. However; this is not something we have the time to guide thru in this forum. If you are good with Windows, you may be able to figure it out yourself and you could possibly get help with it in the Software Forum.
