So my laptop is slow. It takes about 20 seconds for Applications to start - and that's with nothing else running. I've been to BlackViper's site for Windows XP, and went through his 10 point checklist, but what confuses me the most is why I have 44 processes running and which ones I can stop running - permanantly. So I'm going to give you my specs to see if 20 seconds for opening a program is a long time for my system...also, everything is just slower than I remember when I first got it. I deleted a lot of programs to free up space, did all of the defrags and disc cleaning, spybotting, adwareing, registry cleaning, etc. that I can do and still no luck.

    Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R)111 CPU - M 1200 MHz, 1.9GHz, 256 MB of Ram.

And here are some screenshots of the processes running. If you see things that I can stop running, please let me know how to do it so they don't run at start-up. and yes, I've changed my start-up to be only 8 items or so. Thank you so much!!

crap. I tried to upload my screenshots - but I can't get them down to 97kbs. I'm using my resizing PowerToys for XP and it only takes it down to 235kb. Any suggestions?? How do you guys take screenshots anyway? It's always been a mystery to me. I've been using SnagIt Image Capture, but as I said - the pics too big. Please let me know and thank you, STephanie

Steph, Another stick (or 2) of RAM would help move your laptop as well, once you have solved the slow application bit. Bazza

one thing I will suggest is to have a quick look at the system tray and count how many icons you have in there and then if you have alot find out what they do and do you actually need them to start when you boot up your pc?
