I moved all my old files out of Windows.old into my username file where they sit and laugh at me now.

Any insight on how I now put them back on the reinstalled Vista? Windows Mail is the important one.

The old WLM message store is under:
    Windows.old\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\.

(Substitute the name of your old user account where you see <username>)

So presumably, the new store is under:

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\.

(Substitute the name of your new user account where you see <username>)

You should be able to just copy all the files from the first folder into the second to restore your messages.

The contacts are stored separately, but the procedure to restore them should be the same, only with different directories.

    Copy .contact files from:

    Windows.old\Users\<username>\Contacts

    To:

    C:\Users\<username>\Contacts
