I started a thread some time ago about defrag programs and defragging in general (here). My last post in that thread ended with me using and recommending Puran Free Defrag. While I still recommend it, it seems to be a good defragger and has some good configuration options, I no longer use it. A friend told me about DiskTrix Ultimate Defrag, and after using the trial version for 30 days, I decided to switch my my defrag app to DiskTrix. It is paid-ware, but the trial is fully functional for 30 days, and with the release of Ultimate Defrag 3, the fine folks over at DiskTrix have made Ultimate Defrag version 1 completely and totally free! (more info and download here; scroll down to the bottom of the page and fill out the request form; no worries, I did it when downloading the trial for v3 and they did not flood my email with garbage, just one email with the download link). The point of all this? I never thought I would pay for a defrag program, ever, especially with so many excellent, high quality free defraggers available, but IMO the DiskTrix Ultimate Defrag 3 is by far the best defragger/optimizer app I have used. Period.

(I have not used the free v1 defrag program so I can't comment; and I must say that I was a bit surprised to discover that this program -both paid and free versions- were not hosted here at Major Geeks :confused )

Well now that you've notified them dlb, maybe they'll have a look and consider it, or maybe just maybe, they've already considered it ! :);)

I have been telling people about this defragger for some time.
Free version, not trial, is here.

And I do use and recommend the v.1.72.

I personally like how you can alter the color scheme to your liking.
    Get creative as all ****.

Well... I just ran it and it has me at 0.68% defragmented which as you know is nothing... I ran Puran a week ago, so I would say its doing fine. :) Nice program but for free I will continue with Puran as it is obviously on par with defragmenting, just less options. I like the shutdown\defraqg\restart option.

I'm happy with Puran too, it just works. It really impressed me when it ran chkdsk after W7 failed to do so several times. The shutdown, defrag, restart option is now a no-brainer part of my regular PC housekeeping routine - no colour schemes needed, I just turn off my monitor and get some sleep :).
