    Hello all,
Went out and found a smart-drive usb2.0 put my preloaded drive on it "already has files on it" plugged it in and it was found, installed and ready for use. Now in my computer it shows up without the normal HD icon just a blank icon. When I click on it...I get "Please go to Control Panel to Install and configure system components." What does it want me to do.

I'm using XP Pro SP1 and all updates have been applied...except SP2

    Thanks

My guess is the USB drive doesn't automaticly have the needed drivers in windows to work correctly. Is there any chance that the smart-drive came with a drivers disc? Cause it sounds like windows hasn't quite loaded the correct drivers for it by default.

yes it did...it appears the drivers are for 98. My Device manager show everything to be fine and in working order.
