I was thinking about selling a few HDD's I have, can anyone recommend any really good HDD erasing software?

Well...yeah see, when you format a Hard Drive data can still be recovered...that plus formatting that way takes a long time. I'm looking to avoid both of those, hence why I asked.

Using software to erase and essentially overwrite all the data will ensure that everything will be virtually unrecoverable, which is what I am looking for. :major

You can do a quick format which takes a matter of seconds.

And that data can only really be recovered if you take it to data recovery companies that specialise - I very much doubt that whoever you sell these drives to are going to do this....

Ok...well I appreciate the concern but I'd rather be safe than sorry if you don't mind because in the end you never can know who could buy things you sell. So, anyone know of any software?

As you rightly say it is a doddle to recover data from a formatted disk (especially just a quick format) - in fact there is a DOS command to do just that (unformat c: ).

Have a look here for instance. :)

Dude if you think format will erase data and make it unable to be recovered, format your drive and send it to me... there are 100's of prgrams to recover data.

try Dariks Boot and Nuke @ http://dban.sourceforge.net/

Cool, thanks for the input, seems like DBan is the popular choice and free at that. ;)

Quick question, which Wipe Method would be the best selection?
