It's built into Windows. Open a command prompt 'As Administrator' and type chkdsk c: /r. If the disk you want to check is not c: then substitute the disk's drive letter.

chkdsk is THE tool for correcting problems with ntfs disks. What's the problem?

It needs the /r suffix to repair.

Once a modern hard disk drive starts to fail, you cannot fix it (period) and it will only get worse with time. You can check the drive's health with the free trial of http://www.hdtune.com 's utility; but, if the value of (05) Reallocated sectors or (C5) Pending sectors is not zero in the data column, it has failed and you need a new one.
Did you back your stuff up?

Thank you, I used CrystalDiskInfo and Hard Disk Sentinel ... C5 Current Pending Sectors:2
Just would like to know how long it will survive ...

There's no way of telling how long it will survive in a usable state, it might be for weeks or months but it might only be days. If the next failed/failing sector is in the area of the disk looked at by the BIOS at start up time, you no longer have a disk.

    That's difficult/impossible to say.
My 80 GB IDE HDD is 11 years old. I turn my PC on and off everyday, which is supposed to shorten the life of a HDD.

It's good that you're checking the hard disc with 2 programs. If they yield very different results, use a third program and go with the results of the 2 that are similar.
Also, ebabled S.M.A.R.T. in the BIOS - then you'll be notified when the HDD's retirement is impending.

    Important!
At this point you should backup all your files - Documents, Pictures, etc. And don't forget the Bookmarks.

That SMART information is kept in what's called the system area which is a section of the media (on the platters) used exclusively by the processor on the drive's logic board. If it gets damaged or becomes unreadable, the drive will instantly become unreachable the next time it spins up.
Most of the drive's brought to me for data recovery were banged and nobody seems to be telling folks that a traditional hard disk drive is seven times more fragile than a raw egg so it doesn't take much to hurt it.
HDTune also has an error scan tab which simply reads every sector on the drive. Even one red box spells impending doom.
If you're up to it; though, almost all drive's that still work can be cloned with a utility like RawCopy and the copy put in to replace the failing drive. Drives are also quite cheap these days.
