My Motherinlaw did it again,(well between her and the grandchildren). I have done the readme runme first, and pretty sure i'm getting better at doing it correctly. If you would be kind enough to check the logs i would appreciate it. I am on the infected pc now, when i first started it took about 15 minutes just to boot and open any kind of application, the antivirus was shut down and could not access the internet at all. I'm on but still have issues, when in Safe mode, seems to run a lot faster than normal mode, Welcome your help!!!

it will only let me upload 3 files, let me know when you want the other 2(hijack this and runkey).

    Thanks!!!!!!

You don't have malware problems! You have what I refer to as end user problems.
    1. Multiple antivirus applications (only one should ever be used - See step 3 of READ ME)
      • AVG
      • Authentium Command AV (probably due to the rest of the stuff install from Verizon. You should really check how much the other junk they installed is really needed or worh having.)
    2. Multiple realtime antispyware applications (only one should be used)
      • Anti-Spyware (not sure what the name really. This is the way it shows in your uninstall list. Probably came from Verizon)
      • Windows Defender
      • Verizon PC Security Checkup (but this may only be a scanner and the Anti-Spyware item maybe the full blocking tool).
      • Yahoo! Anti-Spy
    3. You may have multiple firewalls if the Verizon stuff also includes a firewall and you also have Norton Personal Firewall.
I believe this stuff from Verizon costs the end user about $5.00 per month ($60 per year). There are free tools that are better and easier to control and manage but that choice is yours as the end user. Whichever is easier for you as the user to manage.
You do need to update your Sun Jave version though and then uninstall the three old versions that are installed.

the only antivirus that should have been on there was AVG, which i had installed that last time that there were problems , and i cleaned it with your help. I just realized that since that time, my mom-in-law has switched ISP and now carries verizon. Could your recommend what i should uninstall? When i had rid it of some of the garbage that was in there and was finally able to get it online, the interbrowser popped up with a google bar, yahoo bar, verizon bar and stuff like that which was not the case right before it had the problems of getting on the internet and taking about 10 minutes to boot. I think the bitdefender picked up on some baddies...are these gone now?

ok, i removed all the Verizon extra security stuff. the yahoo antispyware, updated the sun java and removed the other instances i found in the add/remove programs. removed the norton personal firewall(not sure where this came from, thought i had removed all norton the last time there was problems with this pc). Made sure the windows update was current. i checked the security through the control panel and all are set to on and active. still seems to be a little slower than normal, but i could be mistaken, i don't use this pc so this might be normal. printed a copy of the 'how did i get infected" for my mom-in-law.
Do you think i need to do anything else?

If the multiple security apps are now uninstalled and only 1 Antivirus/Firewall and real-time malware scanner is installed then all I would now do is to run CCleaner and clean out any remaining junk from the uninstalls ( use both Cleaner and Issues scans ) then Defrag the HD.

Also if you have not already, do install SpywareBlaster on that PC and show your motherinlaw how to udpate it, which needs to be done once a week.

ok, will do. one question, are't the spyware blaster and the windows defender the same thing? or am i mistaken?

Nope they are two very different applications,

    SpywareBlaster Download linkage
What Spywareblaster does in essence is to just add a long list of known websits that could add malware onto your PC, these are added to the blocked Site list in both Firefox and IE and prevent those sites from running any ActiveX based Hijackers... it doesnt run in the background so will nto interfear with any other software, it just needs updating manually once a week.
