    Hi,

I'm a relatively experienced computer user, I regularly complete the steps in the Basic Computer Maintenance thread and I run Spybot S&D, Zonealarm and AVG permanently and CCleaner weekly.

My system was taking up to 5 mins to start so I eventually got around to checking out my Startup items and running services, using http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

It said that an awful lot of the running services were trojans, worms and spyware.

I have completed all of the steps in the Malware Removal guide and I have attached my MGlogs.zip file.

Incidentally, none of the scanning programs (SuperSntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot S&D & Combofix) picked anything up.

I am running XP Media Centre Edition on a Toshiba laptop.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Steve

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach the log from ComboFix so we can verify that it did not find anything. ComboFix is not a true comprehensive malware scanner/removal program. Much of what is shown in the log has to be analyzed by an expert to see if their are any problems just like the logs inside the MGlogs.zip file have to be analyzed manually. Speaking of MGlogs.... you did not download the MGtools.exe program from the READ & RUN ME (not sure where you got it from) and are way out of date. You need to download and run the one given in the READ & RUN ME and attach a new log. You also need to disable Spybot's Teatimer as requested in the READ & RUN ME as it is only adding to your slow startup and you should not be running Teatimer since you have Spyware Terminator installed.

Note: My initial guess is that you are not having malware problems and that your problems are due to what you are running. Slow startup is really a non-issue unless it is taking really long (which 5 minutes is not). Is it slow after startup?
