pretty much an easy question.. can anyone pick out all the parts for a computer? this is exactly how i built my computer.. i asked you guys on here :p lol.. but my friends mom only told me this about the computer.. she said it has to be fast, have a lot of memory and just be a good all round computer for 1200 dollars.. basically for ebay and music and lots of pictures.. thats all she said about it :/ lol

for 1200 dollars you can put together a kickass computer..
i could make a list of the things you/she would want/need if you wanted me to?
    just need a little info

    is she a gamer?
how much storage you think she would need?
what would it be used for
and is it ok if i go below 1200$
its hard to go above 1200 unless you want a 512mb video card..

does she already have any of the other parts? monitor mouse keyboard.. etc

for $1200 you could make a top of the range comp.. get the best of nearly everything.

yeah i kno.. i dont kno why she wants to spend so much on the computer lol..i guess because hers is extremely slow.. its an e-machine.. but can anyone put a computer together that will run fine?.. i kno if i try to pick out the parts something will probably not work right with something and that wouldnt be good lol

This came out to be $1088.95 after instant rebates at newegg. There is a little room money wise for peripherals, a case etc. If you don't need the graphics power at all, you can replace the motherboard with one that has an integrated graphics chip and remove the 7600GT to free up even more cash for Vista or anything else you may need. I just did a quick search and came up with what you see here, but it's a smoking fast rig for the price. Especially if she doesn't plan on doing any gaming. Good luck :)

Edit: If you want a sleek, quite case, take a look at Antec's Solo. I just picked one up and I'm in love with it.

awesome thanks! so all i pretty much need is a case, cdrw/dvdrw combo or something and a copy of Windows XP or possibly Vista and im set then? also does everything think all these parts will run fine and not cause any problem?

Yes a nice case, what ever optical drives you want to install, and an operating system. She has a monitor/keyboard/mouse already correct? You can get Vista Home Premium OEM from Newegg for $119.99 or you can stick with XP for now. I looked everything over and I don't see anything that would cause a problem. Just double check before you order though. :) Good luck!

The CoolerMaster Centurion is a very nice case, and I think it is still pretty cheap on sites like Newegg. It can get a bit crowded in there, but I still love it, and I am building my next system with it. The tool-less drive bays are awesome... I can switch out sound cards and video cards without having to worry about toolsof any kind, like screwdrivers. Very nice.

I'll keep that case as long as it keeps together. And it was only $35. :)
