I ran through the self help FAQ and the logs are below. I did have to run it twice b/c some things didn't seem to work correctly. When scanning, I still seem to pick up some hits for spyware so wanted someone to check and see what I need to do to get this computer cleaned properly.
This all started when I went to a web site to read an email some one sent me. Yeah, I know I am stupid.
I had some pop ups and some other things going on like an browser window would open up to a Au3bot or something like that. Seems like it is cleaned now but I still get hits on malware when scanning.

You are not supposed to do this. We tell you this in the instructions. Now you need to attach the other log so we can see what was found in both scans with MBAM. Please attach the below log now
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\kpeters\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\"
    Mar 16 2009 5071 "mbam-log-2009-03-16 (07-59-49).txt"
Did you create the below folder on your Desktop on March 16th?
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\kpeters\Desktop\"
    %SYSTE~1 Mar 16 2009 "%SystemDrive%"
Did you install Symantec Endpoint Protection before or after these problems began? If before, it does not speak very well for their protection, detection and removal abilities.

The below file does not belong in the Windows folder. Move it somewhere else if you need it otherwise delete it.
    C:\WINDOWS\TrojanHunterSetup.exe

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware (like Ad-watch ...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\kpeters\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you for your help, it is appreaciated very much.

Attached below is the MBAM log from March 16.

I did not create that folder on my Desktop, don't know where it came from.

Symantec was installed before all this happened and I agree with you it's not very good is it!

    Deleted C:\WINDOWS\TrojanHunterSetup.exe

I will attach the other logs after I have followed your instructions.Thansk again. :)

Hello again, I have followed your instructions and there was nothing in the temp folders to delete other than todays items.

I also looked in the folder on my desktop you mentioned earlier and found 6 small 1 kb files that state they are system files. They have a long string of numbers and letters for the file name and were modifed on 3-16-2009.

Seems to be working ok now.

    Logs attached below.

You're welcome. We have a little more to do.

Then we will delete it while doing the below.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hi again and thanks for all your help. I have attached the two logs you requested. The reg fix confirmed it worked so that is good and I believe everything is working ok now. :cool

Just wanted to note that my Symantec AV has scanned over the weekend and found and quarantined:
    sopidkc.exe.vir
    A0002126.exe
    tmp0_26509316163.bk.old
    A0005262.old

    You're welcome.

Your logs are clean. Symantec did not find anything of significance. Those were just quarantine files from our procedure and also things in system restore which it really did not fix. But our final instructions will fix them.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
