    For 3 days I've been messing around trying to get the graphics to work right on my Dell Dimension 2400. My hard drive gave me the old click-click-click of death and so i put another one from an old pc into it. It has windows 98 (Plus! - whatever that means!) on it. My XP disk got slimed by my kid and won't work anymore. And, Dell doesn't provide drivers for win98 anymore! So, I've tried at least a hundred times to find a driver that works and I'm stuck here with 16 COLORS STILL!!!

    Device Status says "Device cannot find any free Input/Output Range (I/O) resources to use (Code 12.)

    Resources shows conflicting device is the System board extension for ACPI BIOS. TWICE! Range 00000000-07FFFFFF and again the same thing... 00000000 - 07FFFFFF.

    When I try to manually set them, windows will not reboot. I just get a garbled screen that is stuck. when I try to remove the system board extension for ACPI BIOS it just comes back again!

    Somebody please help me!!!

    Scroll about half-way down the page to the 845 section. It's the 5th driver listed in the 845 section. Click the USA1 or USA2 link in the middle of the line to download. It says it's compatible with Win95/Win98/Win98SE so it should work for your video. Other 845 chipset drivers are available there too. You may have to install the driver thru the device manager and not use the setup.exe. For the conflict error, go into the BIOS and look for a setting that says "PnP Operating System" or maybe "Plug-and-Play OS Installed" and change it. If it says "enabled" or "yes", change it to disabled or no. If it's disabled, enable it. This can frequently fix conflicts with older OSes....

    To take it a step further, (as it's always best to get required drivers from the manufacturer whenever possible) Dell has many video options for the Dimension 2400;
    http://search.dell.com/results.aspx...~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=anav

    Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Computer, Summary, Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have. (Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.) Post that information.

    Also post what is listed for your Motherboard and Chipset.

    If a match can't be found at Dell, then I would seek out "third party" drivers.

    They may have a large selection of GFX drivers for the Dimension 2400 but how many are for Win98? NONE, the 2400 comes in basic format with Intel Extreme GFX and the ATi Radeon 2400s listed above in the Dell link have no listed win98 drivers available.

    Chipset is Intel 845GV, which is what I looked for in getting 3rd party drivers, if they are available great but I know I looked when this thread was first posted last week.

    Hell done this many a time and got wrong drivers too damm many too keep track of these days sadly, I wish with drivers they where made for last 3 current OSes but many 3rd parties do not do this sadly.

    Win98 was a great OS, no bones about that one.

    Yeah, I was quite reluctant to move from 98SE to XP. My machine was very stable and ran extremely well on an Intel 500Mhz CPU and 384 MB of RAM.
