HELP - LCD monitor shows image for 3 seconds only

    Just recently my Gateway LCD monitor has been acting up. I am wondering if it is shot or if it is fixable.
    When I turn my monitor on (while booting or after) it will show what is on the screen for about 3 seconds then turn black. The power light remains on. When I turn the power off then on again the same thing happens - I see the windows screen for 3 seconds then it shuts off. Is there any hope?

    Have you tried a different monitor ..and if so, what happens?

    No, I have not tried a different monitor. I am sure if I did, the problem would be corrected but I was wondering if there was hope for this one.
