    Hi, I've been having trouble for about a month, where random websites will open instead of the actually link i click in google, random tabs will also open. I usually use google chrome, but it completely stopped working and would not work after reinstallization. I'm now using firefox and the random tabs are worse.

    I have just installed norton 360 and am being prompted about attempted attacks originating from svchost.exe, among other place (firefox usually). The names on the virus are random names with .com after.

    combofix found a rootkit and rootrepeal showed a few files

    I have followed all the instructions on here and was hoping someone could check my logs.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    You still have traces of AVG in your logs. Please go here and download and run the AVG Removal Tool.

    Now,

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    RenV::
    c:\program files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl .exe
    c:\program files\ANI\ANIWZCS2 Service\WZCSLDR2 .exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM .exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched .exe
    c:\program files\D-Link\DWA-130\AirNCFG .exe
    c:\program files\iTunes\iTunesHelper .exe
    c:\program files\QuickTime\qttask                                                  .exe

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now attach a log from Norton so we can see what it is complaining about.

    Then, run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    I'm couldn't find a way to get a log from norton. Norton hasn't detected anything since i did the first round of scans though.

    Are you sure you followed my previous instructions? The fix did not work according to your Combo log.

    Let's do it again:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    RenV::
    c:\program files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl .exe
    c:\program files\ANI\ANIWZCS2 Service\WZCSLDR2 .exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM .exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched .exe
    c:\program files\D-Link\DWA-130\AirNCFG .exe
    c:\program files\iTunes\iTunesHelper .exe
    c:\program files\QuickTime\qttask                                                  .exe

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\Name\Application Data\AVG10
    c:\program files\AVG

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.

    ok, you didn't have the folder section in your first post. Also, are the .exe on all of those supposed to be separated from the rest of the message like that?

    Yes, copy the fix exactly as I wrote it. There are spaces that need to be exactly where they are. And yes, I added the folders to this one. Just make sure you scroll over to catch all the exe files.

    Hi, sorry about the delay in my response.

    I ran combofix as you asked, and my computer restarted a couple of times during the scan. After the second restart combofix never loaded and never indicated if the scan had finished successfully. No C:\ComboFix.txt was created, but there was a file C:\ComboFix\ComboFix.txt which i have attached.

    I am not seeing any issues in your logs. Tell me how things are running now.
