    Hello,
IE 7 doesn't work in my vista labtop even though the internet
connection is fine - putty and skype works fine.
    Here are what I've tried.
    1. Install Mozilla firefox -> Mozilla also gives an error message.
    2. Installed spyware doctor start program which doesn't require registration. It detected some spyware and fixed it but the browsers still don't work.
    3. Installed Ad-Aware 2007, but this didn't detect any spyware.
    4. Installed "Broswer Hijack Recover". This says the problem is fixed
but I may need a IE CD then says the installation failed.
    5. I downloaded IE7 and installed it. The installation seemed
successful but it still doesn't work. When I tried to remove program
in "Control Panel", IE 7 doesn't show up even after new IE7
    installation.
    6. Tried removing Mozilla and re-installing it but Mozilla still does't work

I'm getting really frustrated. Any help will be appreciated!!

Browser not working - tried the suggested steps

    Hello,
My IE7 doesn't load any page even though the internet connection works (skype, putty, etc works). I noticed it this morning (2/13 around 10 am EST), and I didn't have the problem about 2 hours earlier than that. Nobody was using the computer during the 2 hours but the skype was on.

I tried all the steps in the page below but the browsers (IE7 or Mozilla) don't work. I installed Mozilla after I had problem with IE7.
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Except I couldn't do the following - since the browser doesn't work I downloaded all the programs using my desktop and copied them to my labtop using USB. So I couldn't do the update for the programs below.
    1) I couldn't finish the Spybot S&D Installing & Running since I got the error message below.
    error sending request
A connection with the server could not be established.
    2) I couldn't do the update for AVG Anti-Spyware, but went on and scan the labtop. It didn't find any spyware so I just didn't do the "Save Report As".

So I'm attaching the two files.
    I'll really appreciate your help!!

Based on your logs, I don't see any malware problems. However in your logs I see that on 2/13 between 8 am and 10am you did some kind of Windows Update. Perhaps your problems began with this. I suggest you try doing a System Restore to 2/12 or earlier and see what happens.

I tried it and it WORKS!!! :D
Thank you so much! You guys are GREAT!!
While I was doing the system restore, I saw somebody wrote at yahoo.answer that he had the same problem and fixed it by system restore. Like he said it does look like a problem with MS auto update. rolleyes

You're welcome. Perhaps you should change Windows Update for now to not automatically install. You may want to review and select which updates to perform slowly. Then always do a reboot after each one and check out how your system is behaving. You may be able to find the problem update this way and then just uninstall the update (or use System Restore to go back to the point where you just rebooted before the problem update).

Thank you for the advice. I turned the auto-update off.
By the way, I installed Mozilla browser but it doesn't work.. It doesn't really matter since I can use IE but I'm wondering if something happend before the MS update on 1/13 so I should do the system restore to the earlier point..

Do you mean Mozilla FireFox? What do you mean by "doesn't work"?

Unknown. Since there were no malware issues, I tend to doubt that it is malware and I also doubt it is due to Windows Update millions of people use FireFox and a problem would already have been reported. You will need to continue with this in the Software Forum if it is still a problem.

    Hi
Yes I mean Mozilla Firefox. When I open it it says
    "Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com
    ...
    "
I tried a couple of other sites and they give the same results..

Does Internet Explorer connect to google okay?
Try uninstalling FireFox, rebooting and then reinstalling. Did that help?

Re: Browser not working - tried the suggested steps

Then it sounds like you are blocking FireFox from having internet access in your firewall. You must allow firefox.exe to have internet access or you will not be able to connect.
