    Hello,

First time posting a problem. It appears that I'm having problems with slow start up. When XP (home) loads up it's also very slow, inserting the icons and programs. When I dbl click on icon it takes forever to start, computer freezes, the screen turns white and a couple of seconds later program may load. If I try to load a program by using the Start button and scrolling up to the Programs icon and moving the mouse to the arrow to pick a program it also freezes up. I've run through the Windows XP Cleaning Procedures provide here and will be uploading the logs. I did have spyware/malware when scanning and have quarantined/deleted as the directions said to do...Please let me know what other useful information I can provide...I will continue to work on the problem and if I see improvements will post them. Thank you....

    Hello,

ZoneAlarm Anti-spyware program detected and quarantined the following , which I deleted today :

    Win32.HLLW.Spreader.17
    File: C:\RECYCLER\System Volume Information\_restore{B37680B2-BA0A-4E5D-BF30-83E44C588624}\RP2\A0000026.exe
    Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\VH\Application Data\Malwarebytes

    Win32.Trojan.BAT.Shutdown.I
    Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\VH\Local Setting\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE5\ F9D6GQoocheck[1].js

ZoneAlarm Anti-virus program detected and quarantined the following , which I deleted today :

    Trojan.Win32.Monder.aots
    Directory: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mlJYpNfD.dll
    Directory: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssqNFVLc.dll

    Trojan.JS.Redirector.f
    C:\Documents and Setting\VH\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\F9DGQ00\check[1].js

And I'm still having sluggish performance, screen freezing up and something weird occured on IE7 on my favorites, sometype of icon link appeared and when I tried to delete it it would not let me it disappeared when I killed my browser and internet connection.

I also continued to get AdRevolver and Right Media cookies even after fixing it with Sptbot S&D...

This is frustrating I run Malwarebytes and it says it's clean, I run something else and it's alright, but I know it isn't because my computer is a rock....Somebody put me out of my misery!!!!:cry

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

The below is a direct quote from step 1 of the READ & RUN ME
You also need to uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME.

Once you do this and then reboot. And then re-run MGtools to get a new MGlogs.zip file and attach it..... then we can start to help you.

All you need to do is what I just requested. You don't need to run everything again. Just put your PC into Normal Startup mode and uninstall Viewpoint Media Player. Then run MGtools again and attach the new MGlogs.zip file.

    Forgot to mention...

I was also trying to get rid of files that i don't use but think I load when I couldn't get WinXP to open properly like cmdcons, which I think is WIndows Recovery Console to my C:\ drive but I'm unable to delete it...It says that there is a file in use. I was only able to delete the cmldr file.
Should I just delete everything and start fresh??? I'm also think i just heard a couple of knocks coming from the HD...

    Thank you....

You should not be trying to delete the Recovery Console. We had you install this before using ComboFix. Having the Recovery Console could be a life saver if you ever get any serious infections that could be preventing your PC from booting. Having this installed is even more important if you do not have a bootable copy of your Windows CD which many people do not.

Is Desktop Maestro a trial program or did you purchase it? If just a trial, I suggest that you not purchase it and uninstall it now.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4A368E80-174F-4872-96B5-0B27DDD11DB2} - (no file)
    O23 - Service: Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service (aawservice) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: WinPPPoverEthernet - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\WinPoET Broadband Connection\WrOS.EXE (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now goto this link Using MGtools and download the new version of MGtools.exe from the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

chaslang, sorry for taking so long to respond, my hard drive crashed. So please close out this thread. I want to thank you for all your help. I did want to add the after I had done what you instructed below I still found malware, but it doesn't really matter anymore. Again thank you for all your help.

    You're welcome.

The malware you may have been finding at that point was most like just things in quarantine folders or in System Restore as your logs were basically clean and we were just doing some miscellaneous cleanup.
