How do you get the router not to respond to ICMP Echo (pinging) requests?

Why? ICMP and ping are troubleshooting tools. Really not worth messing with unless you have a specific need. But if you want to theres probably an option built into your router to block ICMP traffic type.

Answering the requests makes the computer more vulnerable. Can they be blocked by Zone Alarm?

Answering the requests doesn't make the computer more vulnerable, why would it?

Generally, people turn ping requests from within their router settings. Blocking incoming ICMP traffic with Zone Alarm should too, although I dont have it installed to give you specific locations.

A hacker doesn't need a ping response to get to you...

Your biggest dangers are malware, viruses, trojans...basically crap from the inside going out.

All this blocking pings and stealth readings doesn't mean a whole lot.

Our last router had a built in firewall. This one doesn't.
