I have 6 computers in our house. 2 are hardwired into the network and the others are wireless. We use MSN messenger to keep in touch with each other for personal and business purposes.
Two days ago our daughters received a fake msn message from a friend with a link that she clicked on - it was a virus....Well then her computer started sending out msn messages to all of us. We didnt click on the link, but i suspect that the virus spread over our internal network since all of our computers have been hit. This then is the first of 6 posts. I just finished going through all the malware removal steps.
On this computer, Windows Defender found 5 items, and the logs for the other programs are attached.

It said I have a max of 3 attachments allowed, and you ask for 5. I attached the logs for BitDefender, Panda and HijackThis. I'll post another entry to this when done with the GetRunKey and ShowNew logs.

I've been keeping the computers all off the network and only working on one at a time, however I need to get them back online as soon as possible for our home based business.

I'll post the logs for the other computers as soon as their scans are done. I assume I should put them into a separate post.

You have a bunch of problems to fix. Let's begin with the Look 2 Me infection. We will move on to the others after fixing this.

Run this Look2Me VX2 Removal and attach the requested log.

Also attach new logs from ShowNew and HijackThis.

Attached are the requested logs. Let me know the next step.

Also =- when this computer is on, should I have the others on the network shutdown or disconnected from the network? Thats what I did tonight, as i dont want this computer spreading anything to the others.

When I booted the computer up, an error dialog box came up saying unable to run "w51e21bc.dll" - does that mean anything?

The good news is the "manage attachments" button showed up this time.

    Thanks for your help!!

I messed up on my posts. I had careful notes of which computer was what, but i ignored them this morning when i saw your post. I ran your scans on the wrong computer and since i was gone all day i didnt notice it until just now. i have run the look2me scan on the right computer and attached are those logs.

I am so sorry for any mixup and extra time this has caused you....let me know what the next step should be.

I use AVG, and it keeps telling me it finds a trojan. I'm attaching the list from that in case it helps.

    1. Download this file - combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall!

Also attach new logs from HJT and ShowNew.

    Here are the logs.

While we are waiting for this to be fixed, is this computer safe to be used, and to connect to the internet?

Not necessarily! Also the more you use if while still infected increases the likelyhood of getting other infections and also could make your cleanup more difficult.

I think we are getting closed to being finished anyway.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7
Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
    O2 - BHO: ToolBar888 - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001}\MyToolBar.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: ToolBar888 - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001}\MyToolBar.dll (file missing)

    O16 - DPF: {E055C02E-6258-40FF-80A7-3BDA52FACAD7} (Installer Class) - http://activex.matcash.com/speedtest2.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Lindsay\mny.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001} <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\mny.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\c.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mny.exe

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

    Now reboot your PC!

Now attach a the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Here are the logs. Seems to be running better now.
the only thing i noticed was there was no folder called:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001}

So there was nothing to delete.
everything else was there and done as per your specs.

    Let me know the next!

Not True!!! That folder is still there and so is another bad one. You probably did not follow the directions in the READ & RUN ME in step 2 properly. Go back and makes sure you follow those directions in step 2 exactly.

Goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall ToolBar888 if found.

If the above uninstalls properly, some of the below items may no longer be seen, but let's work thru all steps anyway.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page.
Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side.
Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process.
    Then click yes.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{48702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001}\Update.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: ToolBar888 - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001}\MyToolBar.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: ToolBar888 - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001}\MyToolBar.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{38702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001} <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\{48702F1D-06C1-1033-1223-050407200001} <--- the whole folder

    Now run Ccleaner .

    Now reboot in normal mode
After reboot, Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixWLK.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Okay you have one more minor item to remove from the registry!

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixWLK.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Other than the above your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    6. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
