I have 2 computers - one with Windows 98 and one with XP. I went through the read me first on both of them. The older computer seems fine. However, the computer with XP quickly became bugged again. When I was working on the XP computer I was able to get to safe mode with networking support but I was not able to access the internet. Therefore, when I ran the 2 online scans I had to do them while - how to say - not in safe mode. Could this have caused the incomplete cleaning? I have come back and downloaded all updates since I last ran the scans and am ready to do it AGAIN - but I want to know if the safe mode issue is the problem. If so, do you have any suggestions to help. One other thing - my husband has an email account on iwon - so I went into the internet options and deleted just the iwon site from the restricted sites list. Does just going to this site open you up to spyware and other problems? Thanks so much. I have spent SO much time working on this I don't want to do it again in less than a month!

What two online scans are you referring to? Just so i can take a look at what steps you are talking about. Also, I hate to break it to you, it is very likely you might be dealing with something that that wont fix. That is just something to try first.

    The scans are:
Trend Micros Free online scan and Symantec Security Check.

I hope I am using the most recent instructions. PLEEEAAASE don't tell me this won't fix. How does that happen??

    THanks.

If you have dial-up access, you will not be able to get internet access in safe mode.

Complete the READ ME process and then if still having a problem, follow the guidelines below for posting a HijackThis log and post it.

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT
