Hey, fellas. First, I just would like to tell you guys this place is awesome. A great place to get some stuff ya need and what not. Thanks. But, I have a question in concern with one of the freeware downloads I got from here. Its the BugOff! program. Once I opened it, and what not, everything just went to hell and back. None of my desktop icons (i.e. My Computer, My Documents, or even my Control Panel) don't work anymore. Its as if it doesn't load...what's supposed to be there. Just a blank...white space, with that symbol in the top left corner. I saw on the program, that it may cause problems like this, so I know its probably happened to others. But there were no patches for it, to clear it up. So, if it doesn't trouble any of you....admins, or members, could you all help me out? (I hate going to Windows Explorer, just to listen to music, through My Documents, because it doesn't load...heh...) Thanks for the time, everyone. Take care.

Reopen the program and reverse your changes :)

Thanks, Major Attitude. But...I didn't make any changes, that's why its so confusing. It was default. The frist two variables, were default -Enabled-. The last variable was default -Disabled-. That's how I left it. Once I closed it, I realized that it had completely wiped something out. I think it altered something in Java. I can't check my e-mail now...I can't go into chat rooms, and I can't play games, or watch streams. And I also deleted the program...Should I re-download it again? Thanks.

Are you sure you didn't change anything? I just did everything you described (first 2 enabled, last one disabled by MS patch), and nothing bad happened. Follow the Major's orders and run it again, just to make sure everything is kosher still.

Hey, just playin, I did what you said. I took a screen cap. Its still the same. I don't know what's going on...Its like, everything Java scripted is not working. Nevermind...it doesn't even let me attach an image. That's how bad its got...The toolbar above...I can't click on them. Once I do, it sends me to the to top of the page again. I can't modify this post whatsoever. Not even smileys...Something seriously wrong is going on...I've been considering re-formatting, but that's a last resort. Anyone got any more help? Pleaaasssse.

We still dont know what operating system you have, so ill assume XP. There are, as always, multiple posibilities, so here you go:

Have you rebooted or at least closed your browser to try again?

He is saying to disable web Content. In XP, right click desktop, properties, desktop, customize desktop, web, make sure Current Home Page is unchecked and lock desktop items can be checked.

Optionally, try using BugOff, and check each item one at a time, close your browser and see if it works. On return, restore the first setting, change the second and so on.

Reinstall Sun Java by going here: http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html

Im pretty confident one of these will fix your problem.

Just to add my note (it doesn't fix your problem but may help someone else). I have Windows XP and Outlook Express 6

I ran BugOff and changed the first two variables from "enabled" to disabled to match the last one. After that I could open Outlook Express and everthing "looked" okay but the actual text of my messages wouldn't appear.

When I put 2 and 2 together I went back into "BugOff" and changed the first 2 variables back to "enabled"...So it didn't stay altered (like yours, Inept) but for others thinking of using it, I would think it would have the same, similar effect if you changed the variables.

Hi there. Have not been here for a while but I just had this problem, and found a solution, so I thought I would share it here to help Inept. I tried the "Restore Backup" option in the system configuration utility but it did not work. But something I found googling did. I run win98 but it was not specific on the windows version.

Reboot your computer. As the computer reboots press the cntl key (or f8 or which ever key gets you to where you can choose safe mode, step-by-step comfirmation...etc) and choose "Command Prompt Only". At the prompt type SCANREG/RESTORE Then choose the file from the day before this problem first occurred. Then you will be prompted to reboot. Do so. That is it.

Before I did this I had problems viewing mail in outlook express and I was not able to access windows update but this solution fixed all of that. I hope this helps Inept.
