    Hi all,

I'm looking for a "water-tight" method of hiding an IP address in place of another one. The connection is purely for http access but we want to appear at different locations (of the same country).

So far we have (succesfully) used a few VPN services to achieve this but as the number of UK servers is apparently limited (and are apparently concentrated in Maidenhead) we are now looking at alternative ways to do this.

Proxies were suggested to us and our first attempt using FoxyProxy in Firefox somehow lead to our real location being detected. We cannot be 100% sure if this was due to our error (although a couple of the "what is my ip address" -type websites reported the desired proxy location not our real one?) Hence why we proceeded believing that our real location was hidden. We are reluctant to try browser configuration of proxies again without some good advice :)

So what we're looking for is a recommendation of either a good VPN service which offers UK servers in multple locations (no specific encryption required as no sensitive information is being transferred, shared rather than dedicated is fine) or a robust method of proxy connection that does not reveal our real location - is a proxy connection possible at a more ground level rather than just within the browser?

Thanks in advance for all replies!

Why would you want to do this?

It's a UK online gambling website, private table invites and all that. You can only access it from a UK IP so a US/Europe/etc. IP address is useless. We have separate machines and are using "live" OS cdroms/reinstalls to combat the cookies but we need UK IP addresses from different locations to be able to 'play' on the same tables as each other. Tor isn't suitable because of the rolling nature of the IP's.

Wouldn't it then be possible for you and your buddies at the same table to exchange information and distort the odds?

    Exactly.

Are you always this condescending or are you part of the welcoming committee?

condescending? I think not. Just trying to understand the practical application of your question other than cheating.

You can try Tor (http://www.torproject.org/). However, Java, Flash, ActiveX, can all be manipulated to get your real IP. I'm assuming that these websites use Java or Flash to run the game so you may not be able to completely spoof your IP. This could also explain why the proxy didn't work.
