    Greetings,

About one week ago, my computer was running extremely slow. Thinking I was safe from Viruses, Trojans, and Spyware because I have McAffe virus protection and Firewall, upon advise from a friend I check out my system's processes and found iexpIore.exe running. I since then have done all the steps on the forum.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407. Except for the About:buster because the file was corrupted. After completing this, I installed Hijack This! and went to the two sites you recommended to analyze. They both say there are issues. I would like to be able to post my log file for you too see. Pleases let me know if I can do this. Also one question - I am on a wireless connection. Is the other computer on this connection at risk of getting the same Trojan? Thanks for anything you can do.

About:Buster is not corrupted. You probably did not install it to its own folder which is required. And you only need About:Buster if you have an HSA or an about:blank hijacker.

The other PC could be at risk if you share drives/folders on your network or if you surf in the same places that caused the problems to begin with.

iexplore.exe is Internet Explorer (your browser).

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Thank you for your help. Here is my Hijack This! log file as an attachment. Also, when can I restore system Restore. I also unchecked iexpIore.exe from the start up tab in msconfig. Is this keeping it from being cleaned from my computer. Thanks again. ;)

System Restore should be enable when we finish fixing problems.

iexplore.exe does not need to be loaded at start up! iexplore.exe is your Internet Explorer browser. Please do not use msconfig to inhibit loading of programs. In order to properly determine what is going on with your PC, we must see all programs that could load. Run msconfig and select Normal Startup. Then reboot your PC and post a new HJT log.

Is the below a valid site that you visit?

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.btownsound.com/

What problems, if any, are you having?

I selected normal start up for the msconfig. btownsound.com is a valid web site. I was having problems with my computer running extremely slow and found expIore.exe (the l is really a capital "i") in my processes. I have attached my Hijack This! log. Thanks again

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them (if found) by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    c:\windows\system32\iexpIore.exe

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinProfile] iexpIore.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    c:\windows\system32\iexpIore.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file. Let me know if you do not find these or cannot delete it.

Now empty you Recycle Bin and then go to c:\windows\Prefetch and look for any similar named files and delete them.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

As you said, my system restore is disabled and the viewing of all hidden files is enabled. When I went to do the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page of Hijack This! and "Open process manager", I could not find the process c:\windows\system32\iexpIore.exe. Then I scanned my machine with Hijack This! and clicked and fixed on the line 04-HKLM\..\Run[WinProfile]iexpIore.exe. Then I booted in safe mode and tried to use Window Explorer to find c:\windows\systems32\expIore.exe but could not find it. I also used the Search to look for it and still could not find it. Lastly, I looked for similar files in the Prefetch but could not find any, so I deleted the Prefetch and then emptied the Recycle Bin. Here is my lastest HJT log. Thanks again for your help!

I fixed the last one you told me to. Things are working much better. Can you take another look at my HJT! log to see if everything looks ok? Thanks again. :)
