Hi. I've been having a alot of problems getting rid of spyware that infected my computer about a week or two ago. I run both Spybot Search & Destroy and Microsoft Anti-Spyware and they will both delete these, but whenever I restart my computer or turn my computer on in the morning, guess who's back? I have a program that installed itself called PowerScan that shows up on my program menu. I use McAfee VirusScan 2004 and it didn't find any viruses, but spyware called 180searchAssistant. I tried to follow the sticky the best I could. Thanks if you can help.

These are the spyware files that Microsoft Anti-Spyware finds:
(nearly all of them return after I delete them)

    IST.XXXToolbar
    Twain Tech
    CoolWebSearch.StartPage
    IST.XXXToolBar
    Possible Browser Hijack
    IST.SlotchBar
    180searchAssistant
    Xrenoder
    TopRebates
    Unclassified.Spyware.D
    SideFind
    IST.PowerScan
    IST.ISTbar
    AvenueMedia.DyFuCA

    My HijackThis log:
    Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0
Scan saved at 2:40:19 PM, on 2/15/2005
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
    Windows folder: C:\WINDOWS
    System folder: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

    Hosts file: C:\WINDOWS\nsdb\hosts

    C:\Documents and Settings\Josh\Desktop\HijackThis.exe

That's about all I got. Hope you can help.

Sorry about posting my HijackThis log file, I used a another support forum and just copied and pasted without thinking about it because they haven't responded yet. If I pissed someone off, I'm sorry, it'll never happen again.

    Hi Jlew88,

Generally, it is a good idea to start with the Cleanup Tutorial HERE:

READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan and Virus Removal

There are only a few of us Volunteers who regularly offer advice in this forum. Running through the above Tutorial will remove a lot of stuff that would otherwise clog a HijackThis Log and save us valuable time.

Please let us know the steps that you are able to complete and the ones that give you problems. Note that you need to be in Safe Mode with System Restore OFF (if you have it) and have the Viewing of Hidden Files ENABLED as per the instructions in the link. Make sure to do the Online Scans.

Post back and let us know how you fared. Also, send us a HijackThis Log. Please be sure to follow the instructions below:

Note that your HijackThis should MUST be extracted to its own safe folder – C:\Program Files\HijackThis!

Also note that, before you scan, you MUST close all running programs including your web browser, e-mail and items in the system tray.

Please save your HJT Log as a .txt File and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.

I’ve been tied up with work lately and cannot visit this forum too often these days, but somebody will try to take a look when they get a chance.

    Best luck :)
    PP
