    Hi Geeks!

Love this website!! I have spent the last week trying to fix what I believed to be a spyware prob and I think I've finally fixed the prob, all thanks to this website (and my patience!!).

Thanks to Hijack This, I discovered a "nasty" with several occurances of the msnappau.exe file. I've found and removed all of them except this one. The path is:

    C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.02.3000.1001\en-ca\msnappau.exe

And when I try and delete, I get th message that "Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."

Any thoughts on how I can delete this??

    Thanks!
    Alanna

    jarcher I can't handle a title

    open your task manager
    ctrl>alt>del
    see if its running
    if it is
    right click it>end process tree
see if it is in add/remove programs
    try to delete it manually
    in
    C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.02.3000.1001\en-ca\msnappau.exe
    then run hjt again

    Hi,
Apologies for coming into this thread late but I have been having trouble with a spyware prgram which ZoneAlarm keeps spotting fortunately, called "Z5bf08.exe". I also have msnappau and this appears in two different folders, one with the same "numeric name" as the above but ending in "en gb" rather than "en ca", the other with a different numeric name of "01.02.0002.1001". I thought that these were something to do with ms messenger, should I get rid of them please?
I also notice that whilst the "Z5bf08" problems started towards the end of October - (I have to admit when I used Kazaa!) these folders seem to be earlier in the year.
    Can anyone advise please?
    Cheers, Peter

Guys, This file is not a bad program. It is just a matter of choice whether you want it or not. msnappau.exe is part of the Microsoft MSN toolbar system, which initiates an update facility for the MSN downloadable toolbar. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference

    Peter,

You should start your own thread. Sounds like a trojan. First steps are to run all of this: READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
