Hitachi DFT(Drive Fitness Test) won't load

hi
i have a hitachi hdd in my laptop ..
i feel like it's got some problems so i wanted to check it out using the drive fitness test hitachi gives itself ..
I downloaded the hitachi bootable CD image.Burned it on a blank cd ...
booted it up ... If i use AHCI or normal ATA, it stops at "Loading DFT..." for every controller i select
what should i do ?

 

Can you pull the laptop hard drive and install it into a desktop PC as a slave to run the check? It's easy with a SATA drive but older ATA/IDE/EIDE drives will need an adapter.

 

You might try this:
Active@ Hard Disk Monitor

Speccy will show some info
from the hard drive SMART technology including temperature and general Status.

Also, from My Computer or Explorer,
right click the drive letter and select 'Properties' > Tools tab > Error Checking > Check Now

 

i think it's a sata .. not sure .. gotta check ... but opening the laptop is quite hard and i'd rather not take the risk ... it's not worth it for a disk check

 

It's normally only 2-4 small screws that need removing to free a hard drive from a laptop but if you don't feel comfortable doing that, it's ok.

Carry on with mjnc's suggestions.
