HL2 reads reads 6600GT as Dx8 rather than 9

For all the HL2 gurus out there...

Per my thread here, I've just installed a Geforce 6600GT (AGP). For some reason HL2 is listing hardware DirectX as only Dx8, but shouldn't it be Dx9? (Software is set at Dx9.) I seem to remember seeing someone else having this problem somewhere else but can't find the thread again.

I've also noticed that some textures within the game are either pure black or pure grey... Like some of them aren't displaying or didn't load correctly.

I got this too with my Leadtek Geforce FX 5800. Beats me. No missing textures tho

 

That reminded me... Prior to the 6600GT, When I was running HL2 with a Ti4200, I'd used 3D Analyzer to tweak some settings so I guessed it was still resident when Steam started. I ditched the 3D Analyzer .bat file and the DX settings went up to 9, so I think that's all it was... But are you not s'psed to be able to choose what DX settings you want? It's set to DX9 now but still greyed out.
