Horizontal Black bars in Videos

Hello so while watching certain movies I get these horizontal black bars ontop and below the image that is being displayed. I have tried changing the video to full screen but these horizontal black bars are still there. Someone told me that I have to change the aspect ratio or something I am not sure how to do this. I am using Kmplayer to watch the video atm but I also tried other video players like vlc it has the same problem. So I am wondering is there a way to make it so that the video plays without these huge black bars ontop and below the image being displayed and so that it displays the full image?

 

VLC has a video crop feature. This will remove the sides of the picture and make your picture more "square" to fit the size of your tv screen.

I don't know Kmplayer but check to see if it has video cropping.

 

KMPlayer has while playing video Right-click display>Pan and Scan>Select 4:3 Cropping

KMPlayer has a way of remembering settings forever so to undo is same thing except Select Do Nothing

on any of your players there should be an option somewhere for your aspect ratio, just set this to 4:3, this is for a normal (? not widescreen) tv/monitor,

in vlc you can 'force' it (if thats the right word)

open vlc

tools > preferences >

tick 'all' at bottom left

click 'video', scroll down to 'source aspect ratio' and type 4:3 in the box and click 'save'

this will make all your vids fit the aspect ratio automatically
