A few weeks ago, a friend helped me get our wireless router working so the kids could use the laptop and other wireless devices.

Yesterday I was browsing the internet and for no reason whatsoever, it just stopped. Yet, when I went downstairs, the laptop was still connected to the internet.

The error message popped up (when I clicked on the error icon on the bottom right) that I had Limited or No Connectivity. I ran the repair feature to look for Local Area Connection.

Then the error message came back.."Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address". For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.

It just boggles my mind that this happened because I didn't do anything to change any type of settings--I had just got into town and was uploading pics, checking e-mail..etc.

The router is a Netgear (11 Mbps Wireless Router MR814).

I'm using a personal built PC with Windows xp operating system. It has an AMD Athlon 7850 Duel Core Processor.

Like I said...this blows my mind because it was like it just quit. I did run the dsl line directly to the pc just to make sure..and that works fine. But if it's connected to the router, the pc won't connect to the internet but the lap top will.

Open Device Manager and see if there are any red x's or yellow flags next to your network adapter. Next, open a command prompt and type the following without the quotes and paste all the results back here, "ipconfig /all". Also check, open IE, click Tools, Internet Options, Connection Tab and then the LAN Tab and in the window that opens make sure that all the check boxes are clear, if not clear them and close IE and re-open IE.

No red x's or yellow flags. IE had no boxes checked.

For some reason your pc does not see the router. The IP address of 169.254.x.x is what's called an IPIPA Ip address. Do these:

Click on Start=> Run type CMD to open a command prompt.
In the command prompt type the following commands:

To Reset Reset WINSOCK entries type: netsh winsock reset catalog and press enter

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /registerdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

I tried what you suggested and it's not working.

I did reboot the computer after typing everything because there was a msg that WINDSOCK change would only occur after reboot. (they lied...it didn't change)

I did another ip config / all and this is what I got:

Something is still not right. The IP address and DNS IP's do not match plus the DNS suffix should say something about the network adapter. Ok, so now power off the router, wait about 30 seconds and power it back on.
