How Are Sound Emoticons Are Made?

I have been searching for a way to make my own emoticons with sounds. I want to use the emoticons on my laptop, so not for phone texting etc.

It may be way over my head to make something like this, but I can make an emoticon, I just can't find a way to ad a sound with it. Has anyone done this, or know how it's done? I was thinking I might need to join a web-design forum, but maybe not. I don't want to build a site.

Probably a long-shot, but thought I would ask you guys if you might know. I find a lot of cute sound emoticons but I have several ideas on better ones.

Oh I remember now, these are truly great, but I couldn't use them on Trillian I don't think. At least I didn't know how I could. Trillian has some cute ones, sound emoticons, like a duck that quacks etc.

 

I found Sound Recorder in the Google apps store, and it works great to "make" sounds. But they are like 355 kb's and I want to make small sound files (.wav) about 5.1 size or so? I can't figure out how to make a sound file that small.

Hmm, nevermind, says I can't upload that sort of file, .wav. But anyway, it is only 4. something kb's

 

I had a brief look at the help but couldn't find how to add emoticons to trillian.
You could contact them before going through all the trouble of making your own.

You shouldn't use .wav for sound files.
MP3s are much smaller.
