How do I make the battery last almost foreever? Also does it matter if I take my laptop and unplug for about 10 minutes and the replug it or should I unplug it and wait till the battery dies and then replug it??

I think do not plug your adapter until your pin go down. if you do not used your computer for long time pulling pin out,

In my Gateway laptop BIOS there is a setting to "Calibrate Battery Guage". Their spelling. It allows you to completely discharge the battery so that "rings around the bath" do not stop battery from fully recharging. I forget the technical term, someone will assist. If you recharge often, without fully discharging the battery, it will develop a point where the battery will recharge up to a level, below Full Charged. Tech Guys, please step in.

I have a calendar reminder, once a month, 1st of the month, to fully flatten my battery. Bazza

Yes, you could just leave it on, to speed up the process: disable all options in power management to keep your laptop from diving into power save mode

But wouldn't the battery die or are you just talking about when its pluged in. But heres my question:
If I unpluged my laptop which was fully charged used the laptop for 5 minutes should I plug the laptop back in or should I wait until I have no more juice in the laptops battery?

Waiting until ..... although they are Lithium or Niken battery sometime you have to run out battery power

so sorry about that Louisd11, I have more messages, so I can not reply immediately.
do not recharge battery at the same lowest power it will make it run down faster. sometime you have to run battery out to level zero and recharge it like a new battery.

I would use the laptop on AC power all the time, if that is convenient. Only use battery power when you have to. When you have to use battery power, use it until the battery low warning message/sound/flashing lights happen, then recharge it when plugged into AC power.

That should provide the best charging regime, and stop "rings around the bath" charging level.

Don't buy a second battery until your old one is completely stuffed. Even then, go to a battery specialist supplier and get them to check it out, as a second opinion. Laptop batteries are expensive. Then buy the largest amp/hour capacity one you can afford. Bazza

Ok heres my last question thenkyou guyz for so far what you did:

I am going away for three months how should I store the battery? Should I keep it charged or keep it uncharged and take the battery out for the three months I will be gone for.

I can't let my laptop's battery completely drain because I don't know how long I need to use it and I would hate to be somewhere without the power cord and the battery die. Plus whenever I'm at home and it is plugged in, it automatically charges.

I'd stick with Dell's answer in the FAQ. They, hopefully, spend a lot of time and money researching battery life and associated stuff. Bazza
