There are ways to do it through your OS, but the easiest way to tell is to open the case and look. If you know the differences between the cables you can tell what you have. Raid is not a drive type, its a way of linking multiple drives to act like you only have one large drive. The most common types of drives use IDE and SATA interfaces. IDE is simply a 40 pin port. You can recognize this easily as it is 2 pins x 20 pins rectangle. These usually use a flat "ribbon" cable, although they are making round cables for these. If you have a store bought PC, with IDE drives, most likely, you will have a flat grey or white ribbon cable connecting the drives to your motherboard.

A lot of newer motherboards are coming equipped to recieve SATA with built in ports. So you won't necessarily see a drive connected to a PCI card. A lot of these are also coming equipped with a built in RAID setup, as I don't have a raid set up yet, I couldn't give you any info on this.
