How do I make my Brand New Logitech Speakers to stop Hissing & Popping white noise?

I just got brand new logitech Z313 speakers and they are AWESOME except when there's no sound playing through them .. then they are LOUD and ANNOYING because of all the white noise just spewing out of them. It's not bad like if some wires were crossed with feedback but it's loud enough to hear all the time as this constant background noise of hissing static and sometimes popping. My old speakers didn't do this at all. But they were very low quality speakers and they finally died out. So I got new speakers and hooked them up and now I have all this white noise. No wires are touching or too close to each other. I have no idea why this is happening. I have to UNPLUG the speakers to get the white noise to stop. And yes, I'm sure it's the correct audio jack the speakers are plugged into.. I'm not plugging them into the wrong port. I promise. :)

Is it something with my motherboard sound causing this? Or is it the new awesome speakers? My old pair were like $10 and these new speakers are like $40. BIG difference for me. My sound quality has GREATLY improved but now I have all this white noise to deal with. Any suggestions?

I feel like it has something to do with the motherboard sound card or some kind of wireless interference (I have a cordless phone and a router in the room but not next to the speakers or computer) ... but I am not very knowledgeable about computers so I am unsure. It's just a feeling. :)

Here's what my computer says about my computer's hardware:

Operating System Windows 7 Professional Media Center Edition

Is there a way to delete this thread? I found the solution to my problem almost as soon as I posted this thread. I feel really stupid for posting it now. Sorry! :( Apparently all I had to do was go into my sound control properties and MUTE the LINE IN connection. Now all that white noise is gone and all I hear is the sound I WANT to hear. Very happy indeed! Thanks for listening anyway! :) I'm happy it was such a simple easy solution in the end tho. :)

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    Hi,

After solving a problem with hum (I lifted the ground on my computer monitors and speakers by adding 3-to-2 adapters on them, then plugged them into my Power Conditioner), I now have a problem with HISS - in BOTH my headphones and computer speakers (Yamaha H5's).

Is this on a PC or Mac?

Is this under Control Panel / Sound / Recording / Line / Line Properties / Levels, and then hit the little speaker icon to mute?

There is also a menu under Control Panel / Dell Audio... I have muted everything except Speakers and Line (which are set to pick up my AudioBox 22VSL - basically the AudioBox is functioning as my sound card).

I also disabled all the other speaker options except for my AudioBox. (It was the only one with a green check, but... they are the only speakers plugged in and being used.)

I do use a headset for Skype, which uses the Realtek mic jack, and my regular speakers that plug into the Audiobox. Actually Skype doesn't work now so it looks like I need to go back and enable the Realtek Microphone in the Dell settings.

I have Dell XP 8500 PC... Windows 7, 64-bit, quad core processing, i7 quad core processing, 3.4GHz, 8gigs RAM, StudioOne2, PreSonus AUdioBox 22VSL.

You do not want to use a ground cheater plug, then use a power conditioner. The problem with a Ground loop hum. Is due to failing or no ground in the building. See the Ieee Emerald Book on this.

    Thank you.

IE Emerald book ... Ieee Emerald Book? Not sure what you meant to say.

Anyway... the hum went away as soon as I put those cheater plugs on. It is definately a grounded outlet, an electrician checked it... he also said my house was properly grounded?

Actually the hiss I'm hearing may be "normal" computer hiss that comes just from plugging in an audio interface.

Ieee Emerald Book is exactly as I stated. As for properly grounded. If it was, you would not have the hum.

The Ieee Emerald Book covers proper grounding for Electronic circuits.
