How do you do a system file check with only a recovery disk?

    Hi,

    I have a Toshiba laptop, bought today with Windows xp.
    Is it possible to do a file system checker / repair, when all I have is Toshibas Recovery Disks. confused

    All help is gratefully accepted.

    I don't think so. If you can boot to the Recovery Console, you can run 'chkdsk /r' to repair possbile file system problems (NTFS problems), but it won't repair system file corruption or check for file integrity....

    Toshiba recovery disks have Windows all in one big cab file. They are accessed by a program call Tsetup which runs from a floppy. You can download Tsetup for your specific laptop from the toshiba website.
