Just installed a new hard drive, it's master and the only one now. My old one was C, and hooked up as slave for a period of time while I transferred some things over to my new hard drive, which was called G and still is, even after removing the old hard drive. How can I safely change G to C without breaking any programs, if possible?

Have you looked under the Device Manager Under Control Panel>System

and then selecting the Disk Drive the Properties> Settings - you might be able to change the drive letter there (though normally if it is C: it can't be changed as it is greyed out.

Found out I can't change a system volume letter without formatting it, which I don't feel like doing. I need this done though because there is a startup error that is apparently looking into c drive which is a cd-rom drive from what I can tell (no other details about the error are given, but it's trying to find something off the hard drive but looking in the wrong drive I believe).

I had this issue a couple of months ago, you are right, there is no way that you can change the drive letter without a reformat. When you do, remember to just connect the drive that you are reformatting and leave all other hard drives disconnected.

hi their, not sure if this is is right but ill give it a go .

Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

Under Computer Management, click Disk Management. In the right pane, you’ll see your drives listed. CD-ROM drives are listed at the bottom of the pane.

Right-click the drive or device you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

Click Change, click Assign the following drive letter, click the drive letter you want to assign, and then click OK.
