How to delete files permanently

    How to permanently delete files from your hard drive without trace? is there any free software out there?

    please help. thanks!

    Is 35 passes really necessary? The NSA option (in that CCleaner screen) provides 7 passes.

    Hi

    The above cleaners are good for file erasing but I personally think if its for home use then a 3 pass DoD 5220.22M setting or equivalent is all thats needed, kinda does depend on what data your erasing, who would have a need to recover your deleted data and paranoia level.

    I use a 3 pass for work stuff and personal banking details, and in a test ran a file recovery application, it didnt recover any of the data I ran through secure file erasure.
