hi i'm the first to admit i'm not the most technically minded so i might be posting this question in the wrong area...but for about 2 weeks i've been having problems with spyware, particulary messing up google and yahoo search engines. i followed instructions on this thread:

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

which seemed to delete the spyware, but as soon as you go back to google or yahoo and type a search, it gives out strange unrelated links, particulary adult links. can anyone tell me what the problem is and is it possible to remove myself as local computer store say it will cost about £100 to repair.

I thought it may have something to do with the registry and when i checked in the registry i found hundreds of links such as: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\zonemao\domains\100sexlinks.com
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\zonemao\domains\123keno.com

can i delete these registry keys or will it damage my pc if i can will it remove the reoccuring spyware

    thanks for your help

In addition to the above and before you do anything more download Ad Aware and Spybot both available this site and run them both one after the other. They will pick out a lot of the junk in registry thats bothering you and possibly solve all the problems. If not the above advice is very good.
    Cheers

Whoops- If you have done all you said you did then you already have ad-aware and spybot - hopefully the fully updated current versions - they ought to have solved your problem.

That area of the registry is where apps like SpywareBlaster and Spybot put the blocked websites into.

    My registry

and this part of IE has the same blocked sites as part of your security

Please post a help question in the Spyware section of the forum if you still have the issues with search engines after following the tutorials in that section, BUT please dont delete anything from the registry unless instructed.

i also reciently had this problem with a computer. It returned completly unrelated results in yahoo and google, adult links like you said. My multiple virus scanners(avg and norton) and adaware and spybot found nothing.

I searched using search.com which was not affected for a solution and i found this.

Do a search for DSMANAGER.DLL . I think its in the system32 folder. If you found it then this is your problem. Delete it. If you cant restart in safe mode and then you should be able to delete it. That fixed my problem.
