How to do a "clean" transfer of Live Mail messages?

We're upgrading one of our computers to a "bigger" unit. Several email accounts are POPped to Windows Live Mail and we'd like to move existing messages to the new box. In the past, when we've upgraded, following Microsoft's instructions for bringing over the mail has resulted in extra mail folders, duplicate mail folders and corrupted trees. All we want to do is make the new mail client look like the old mail client, with the accounts, folders and messages just as they were. The old system is Windows 7 Home Premium. The new one is Windows 7 Pro. Is it possible to do this without spending six months cleaning up the mess? If so, HOW?
